Neil Simone

Neil Simone

Born in London in 1947, Neil studied graphic art and design. Whilst working on an exhibition for M.O.T.E.C., The Multi-Occupational Training and Education Centre, opened by HRH The Princess Anne in 1969, he discovered the delights of Harrogate, North Yorkshire where from 1971 until 2003 he lived and worked. Now sharing his life and studio with his wife and partner Heather, in a converted village school in the village of Whixley, between Harrogate and York, Neil's work continues to evolve and expand.

For over three decades his painting ability and dedication has led to the development of an innovative concept and style, as distinctive as it is unique. Neil's work has a visually compelling quality that arrests the attention and goes on to enlighten the imagination. For those who admire and appreciate good art, it is impossible to ignore the potency of his imagery. With infinite detail, beautiful symmetry and balance, each painting holds a fascinating ambiguity that invites interpretation.

Featured on television, and numerous journalistic reviews, his work continues to create interest around the world and has been exhibited in many leading galleries throughout Britain, Europe and the USA.

In 2004, Neil celebrated 25 years of publishing signed limited edition prints. With a permanent gallery space exhibiting both original oil paintings and prints, the Old School welcomes those with a discerning eye for fine art.

Heather Hewison

Heather Simone

Born in Harrogate, North Yorkshire, Heather had no idea that she had a talent for painting until she met Neil Simone.

Encouraged and inspired by Neil, Heather soon began to develop her own style of painting and an interest in character studies which has led to several commissioned portraits.

In the village of Whixley, North Yorkshire, where she shares the studio and galleries alongside Neil, Heather now helps run the Simone Studio and Galleries whilst working as a professional painter in her own right.

Allied to her character studies, Heather also paints wildlife, still life and Trompe L'Oeil.
